TS session Logs off

Every time my iPad goes to sleep or when I close the case cover my TS session is logg off. Is there a way to disconnect the session to allow my TS session to continue active? If the TS session is log off all of my applications are terminated.
This is a great app and would like to recommend to all of my employees, if you can get the session to stay active.
